BYEFOULING

BYEFOULING 0
Low-toxic Cost-efficient Environment-friendly Antifouling Materials

BYEFOULING was the first European project in which SMT participated as an active partner and technical coordinator. This project enabled SMT to enter a competitive market—antifouling coatings—alongside key players in the sector.

It also allowed the application and validation of our materials under real conditions, namely in containers of antifouling compounds developed by the project partners.

The main goal of the European project FP7 BYEFOULING was to design, develop, and upscale antifouling coatings with enhanced performance compared to currently available products. The project addressed the high-volume production of low-toxicity and environmentally friendly antifouling coatings for mobile and stationary maritime applications. This project, led by SINTEF as the main promoter, brought together a multidisciplinary team of leading researchers from 11 European countries, already active worldwide in the scientific community, along with highly relevant and skilled technological partners. Together, they formed a consortium capable of developing a full production line for antifouling coatings in Europe.
